New Ward...

New callings.

So we've been in the ward now for just over four months. When we first moved in Curtis had to decide whether to attend classes with the High Priests (his ordained level? I guess you'd say?) - where the closest one to him in age is older than our parents, or the Elders (his age level) - where there are quite a few "prospective elders" and other really immature guys, along with some guys that he might really get to be good friends with.

Well, after a few weeks "study" (going back and forth between them), he decided on High Priests - that's where he's "supposed" to be anyway and he feel's he can have better gospel discussions with them. So, they put him in almost immediately as a teacher of the High Priests. (they love young guys for that) He loves teaching, so that was great for him and it's only once a month, so he's still able to help quite a bit with Hadley (I can't wait for him to go to nursery).

About a month ago we were called into the Bishop's office and I was asked to be the Young Women's Ward Camp Director. That sounded fun and I was all gung ho about getting ready for camp in June.

Then last week we were called in again. We didn't even know for sure who he was calling us in about. The Bishop started with Curtis, asking him in a rather drawn out, convoluted way (so that we didn't know what he was asking until he was done asking it), if he'd support me in another calling.

After answering yes, Curtis turned to me and said "it's you!" at the same time that I jokingly said "dang!"

I was called to be the new Young Women's President. I was told I wouldn't be released from camp director and that I'd only get one counselor. Wow. Talk about scary. Now I know sort of how Dana felt when I became her only counselor. This ward has gone through 5 presidencies in 3 years, so I was asked to stick it out for at least a year and a half.

Things changed a little. After wondering, and worrying about who to call as my counselor (I don't know the ward all that well yet and I really needed someone reliable) I picked a name and gave it to the bishop. He was quiet for a minute and then said, well, if you pick her then you can pick a second one too. (she's had some health issues and a new baby)

So I happily came up with a second counselor and took that name to the bishop. He was very pleased with my selection and then surprised me with a name to ponder for the new camp director.

Yeah! Two counselors and a camp director. I'm not quite so scared now. Still scared, just not as bad.

What I don't get is after I was announced and sustained in Sacrament Meeting, I was greeted with a lot of "congratulations" and "well done's". I haven't done anything yet! What if I suck?! (I don't plan on it, but they don't know that yet!) Crazy people.

I guess I would say, Good Luck! I never know what to say when people get new callings because like you said, "Congratulations" and "Well Done" don't really seem to be the right words. I am REALLY glad you get two counselors and a camp director! That is going to be such a busy calling (especially with two young children - and I'm guessing you could potentially end up with another one on the way while you are in that calling) and I'm sure you will appreciate the support.

Wow- what a calling! I remember having a young women's president who had three young boys. I would guess she was maybe just older than we are now, and she was my favorite president. I think you too will do a good job. You will NOT suck. It's not your nature. :) Good luck!

I know exactly how you feel, I was made Young Women President last month and it is quite overwhelming..try taking Dana's place. I don't get the congrats and good job after people sustain either...did I campaign for this? Also Jeff was just ordained to be a High Preist so he is going through that same change. Crazy!
