Malan's Basin

I've been slacking lately. So there will be quite a few posts coming soon to catch up on what's been happening.

A few years ago (before we had any kids) we took a hike up Malan's Basin (above Ogden) to see the fall colors. We took hot dogs and marshmallows to roast at the top and had a great hike. There's a picture of the beautiful colors we saw in my "Husband Tag". About a month ago we decided to do it again. So we packed up marshmallows to roast at the top, two kids in backpacks (and all the supplies that entails), and a dog and went to see the fall colors.

Koda had a blast. I'll bet he covered at least six times the distance we did by running back and forth the whole time. He was always 50 feet ahead or behind us.

The kids never complained and they each took a nap in the packs, so they must have been comfortable.

I was a pansy and we had to take a lot of breaks for me. We never did make it to the top or roast any marshmallows, but it was still fun. The colors weren't quite as vivid as they were three years ago, but they were still pretty and the trip was totally worth it. Although, it told us that we need to do things like that more often... so that we are better at them and don't have to stop before the end. (Really that's just me, Curtis would have made it easily if it was just him and a kid in a pack... or even both kids in his pack if that were possible.)

Here's a waterfall we saw. Sadly this picture doesn't do it justice.

These are the cool kid packs we have (well, we have one and borrowed one exactly like it from a friend). We even figured out how to put one of our CamelBak  bladders in one of the packs.

We never did get a very good picture of the colors we saw. Sorry.

A couple of nights later Adelyn was playing in the kitchen and we didn't think much of it. The next morning I noticed something strange in the apple juice... (sorry the first picture is sideways)
She had opened the lid and dropped at butter knife (with butter on it) into the juice. Gross!

LOL!! I just laughed and laughed at the knife in the apple juice. Hey, you're less of a pansy than me. I'm so out of shape I probably wouldn't of even HAD the idea to take the kids on a hike!! Way to go Elise!

Hadley looks so cute peeking out of that little hat! I love it!

I guess a butter covered knife isn't the worst thing that could have gone in there:)

That hike sounds like fun... but I think I'd have to be strapped to Cole along with the kids to make it more than 1/2 mile in...
Ah the mischief toddlers get into! So fun to find their surprises!
